Dear valued colleagues,

I am thrilled to see the accomplishments and progress being made in our school every day. Many of those highlights found their way into this edition of Behind the Smiles, but I want to touch on a few other matters.

I am pleased to know we have warmly welcomed Dr. Elisabeta Karl, new associate dean of academic affairs, and Dr. Dwayne Karateew, new associate dean of clinical affairs. They each bring a wealth of expertise and are already hard at work making their presences felt throughout the school.

For Thursday, December 3, we have invited dignitaries from across the state to help us mark the completion of our school's revitalization project. The Atrium will be roped off for this event and we will have a very limited clinic schedule for that afternoon. We appreciate everyone accommodating their schedules so we can appropriately thank our donors and supporters.

Lastly, I want to express my excitement for our upcoming School of Dentistry Holiday Party on Friday, December 13. As you may recall, I had to miss last year's party due to illness, so I cannot wait to celebrate with you for an afternoon of singing, dancing and being merry. Please refer to Carol Trecek's email for all the details.

In the spirit of the holidays, I encourage all in the dental school to act with extra kindness this season. This is also a time to reflect on 2024 and set sights on growth in the new year. It has been a special year in many ways, and I am grateful for all of you who contribute to making our school better for our colleagues, students and patients. I look forward to more to come in 2025!

Sincerely,

Dr. Elsbeth Kalenderian

Dean and Professor
Marquette University School of Dentistry
