HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) today highlighted August as National Water Quality Month.

"August is National Water Quality Month, a time to reflect on the vital role that clean water plays in our lives," said Ralph V. Yanora, PUC Commissioner and Co-Vice Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Committee on Water, in his remarks at the PUC's August 22 Public Meeting. "We work with several agency and stakeholder groups to increase awareness and understanding about issues surrounding uses and reuses of water, with quality at the forefront of these priorities."

The PUC recognizes the critical role that regulated water and wastewater public utilities play in providing safe, affordable services to communities across the state. In recognition of National Water Quality Month, the Commission renews its commitment to solving challenges facing public water supplies with a focus on protecting treated drinking water from contaminants, including PFAS, lead/copper, and Legionella. The PUC continues to work with customers, regulated water utilities, and its sister state agencies to realize the public health goals of the Clean Water Act, the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974 and the Pennsylvania Safe Drinking Water Act of 1984.
