L3Harris Tapped to Help Guide Florida Microelectronics Industry

The Florida Semiconductor Institute at the University of Florida added L3Harris Microelectronics General Manager Dimitri Alves to its Stakeholder Advisory Board. In that role, Alves will provide advice and counsel to the group on policy and technical matters. L3Harris - with global headquarters in Melbourne, Florida - is the only top-6 U.S. aerospace and defense company based in the state.

"Working with the institute and the state to bolster the microelectronics industry is an excellent opportunity to build upon our efforts to innovate in Florida," Alves said. "We are ramping up activity at our labs in Palm Bay to provide even more advanced capabilities to customers who will support our nation's safety and national security."

L3Harris provides advanced microelectronics for use in some of the harshest environments imaginable, including contested battlefields and airspace. The technology enables customers to conduct successful missions when traditional electronics are too large, too slow or simply not innovative enough.

Alves has been at L3Harris for more than six years in various strategy, research and development and leadership roles. He previously worked for Lockheed Martin and in Silicon Valley at an autonomous vehicle startup. He has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in aeronautics and astronautics, both from Stanford University. Alves also has a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
