Washington, D.C. - Charles Moran, President of Log Cabin Republicans, the nation's oldest and largest Republican organization representing LGBT conservatives and allies, today condemned the violent anti-Semitic attack against Israeli soccer fans in Amsterdam and expressed the organization's unwavering support for Israel and the global Jewish community:
The violent assault on fans of the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team in Amsterdam Thursday night was a direct attack not only on those individuals but also on the fundamental values that define free societies. Such acts of hatred are an affront to democracy and have no place in any country that respects individual liberty and the rule of law.
Reports indicate that these Israeli fans, attending a European Championship qualifier, were targeted and terrorized by pro-Hamas mobs based solely on their nationality and religious identity. This tragic and vile attack is the latest in the rise in violent anti-Semitic attacks worldwide, including the United States, targeting Jewish and Israeli people who seek only to live freely and safely. It's also a reminder of the hostile forces aiming to terrorize the Jewish people and undermine the nation of Israel.
Authorities in the Netherlands must act swiftly and decisively in holding everyone involved with these violent, anti-Semitic mobs accountable, reinforcing the principle that everyone has the right to gather and live peacefully. This incident also underscores the critical need for international leaders to remain vigilant, taking concrete steps to combat anti-Semitism and secure the safety of Jewish communities globally.
Log Cabin Republicans remains steadfast in our commitment to defending the safety, security, and freedom of all communities, and we will continue working alongside Jewish organizations, global leaders, and our allies in this vital effort.
