37 years and counting: Port of Tacoma honored for financial reporting excellence

For the 37th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) honored the Port of Tacoma for excellence in financial reporting.

The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting is considered the highest form of recognition for government accounting. It requires an easily readable and efficiently organized annual comprehensive financial report that conforms to program standards.

The Port was most recently honored for its report through December 31, 2023.

"To earn the prestigious Certificate of Achievement 37 years in a row highlights our longstanding commitment to transparency," said Port of Tacoma Chief Financial and Administrative Officer Erin Galeno. "I am incredibly proud of everyone in the Port's Finance Department for their meticulous work in financial reporting."

The Port of Tacoma's financial report was reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee, made up of experts in public sector financial reporting.

The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement program in 1945 to encourage state and local governments to go beyond minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual reports that demonstrate a commitment to transparency and full disclosure.
