Elementary School Students Add Colorful Thank You for Chester County Election Day Poll Workers

Students at Downingtown Area School District's Shamona Creek Elementary School have brightened messages of thanks for all Chester County poll workers working on the November 5th Election Day.

The specially-designed notes of thanks colored by first, second, and fourth graders at the school will be handed out to nearly 2,000 people working at Chester County's 230 polling places on Election Day.

Chester County Voter Services Director Karen Barsoum and Chester County Commissioners' Chair and Election Board Chair Josh Maxwell joined some of the second graders in Julie Dimino's art class, to help color the cards and to thank the students for their contribution to the County's election process.

"Having the students color these notes of thanks will brighten the day of the thousands of poll workers who will be based at our precincts from early morning to late at night on Election Day," said Karen Barsoum. "Meeting with the students as they colored the cards also gave us the chance to share with them how important voting is in our country," said Karen Barsoum.

"We thank Mrs. Dimino and the staff at Shamona Creek for helping us add a splash of red, white and blue - and purple, orange, green, pink and yellow - to the thank you cards."

Chester County Voter Services staff work year-round to prepare for, and administer elections, and are particularly busy in the run-up to Election Day. Training courses are currently being held for poll workers, requested mail-in ballots are being sent out, preparation for the election satellite offices and the mail-in ballot drop box program is underway, as is preparation for in-person voting at the County's polling locations.

Shamona Creek Elementary School Art Teacher Julie Dimino said, "The students and I enjoyed showing our appreciation to our local volunteers. We wanted to illustrate our gratitude for all their volunteer efforts in the 2024 elections."

Chester County Voter Services reminds all eligible voters that the deadline to register to vote is October 21st and the final day to request a mail-in ballot is October 29th at 5pm. All important information on voting in Chester County can be found at www.chesco.org/elections.
