The men and women working hard to construct Powder Springs' future City Hall were celebrated Friday at a "topping-cut ceremony" within the construction site, with crew members, subcontractors, city staff and others involved with the project treated to lunch provided by Macallan Construction, which is building the new facility.
The topping-out ceremony marks the placement of the roofing elements, a symbol of progress and the hard work of everyone involved.
"I ride through here at least three times a week, and I'm just so impressed of the progress and everything I see going up. To all of those working on this building, you're doing a phenomenal job," Mayor Al Thurman told those in attendance. "This two-story building is going to be our new home (next year) - it's going to be a blessing to the City of Powder Springs."
Two metal beams within the building were painted white, with attendees allowed to sign their names onto them and become a ceremonial part of the building.
After a meal catered by Black Market Barbecue and a raffle awarding several lucky subcontractors with prizes ranging from gift cards, Yeti coolers and a big-screen TV, workers returned to the job site, which Bill Tracy, Macallan's general superintendent and vice president, said has been accident-free spanning back to April 2023.
"By the end of today, we'll have 26,000 man-hours with no injuries or incidents on this project," Tracy said.
The City of Powder Springs is glad to have been a part of Friday's event, and is looking forward to the project's scheduled completion, set for the second quarter of 2025.
