Humanities and Social Sciences launching new series of ‘Ask Valk Anything’

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Northwest Missouri State University this fall is continuing "Ask Valk Anything," a series of discussions that invite faculty and local experts to answer questions about current events and issues of interest to students.

The hour-long panel discussions offer multiple disciplinary perspectives on complex issues and facilitate open conversation among students and community members.

"We're excited to start our second year of the 'Ask Valk Anything' panel discussions," Dr. Sarah Naramore, an assistant professor of history, said. "The format allows us to respond to and contextualize issues for students and the community outside of a formal classroom environment. It's all about having conversations and presenting multiple viewpoints."

The series features four themed discussions this fall, beginning on Thursday, Sept. 19, with "I'm Registered to Vote, Now What?" In commemoration of Constitution Week, the discussion will consider what happens after individuals register to vote and how residents can become informed voters.

All sessions begin at 6 p.m. on Thursdays in Room 118 of Valk Center.

The series continues with "Genocide: What it is and why we need to talk about it?" on Oct. 3, "Fake News: What is media literacy?" on Oct. 24 and "Student's Choice!" on Nov. 7
