Secretary Pete Buttigieg visits MDOT’s US 127/I 496 Rebuilding Michigan project in Ingham County

LANSING, Mich. - U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg toured the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) US-127/I-496 Rebuilding Michigan project in Ingham County today. Secretary Buttigieg was joined by Rep. Elissa Slotkin, Lansing Mayor Andy Schor, and several officials from both MDOT and laborers working on the project.

This $205 million investment leverages both Rebuilding Michigan bond funds and federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) funding to rebuild 3.7 miles of US-127 and I-496, while improving and replacing bridges along each corridor. This project supports MDOT's overall US-127 corridor improvement goal, aiming to rebuild the corridor through both Clinton and Ingham counties via several phases of work from 2022 through 2028.

The US-127/I-496 project supports commuter, commercial and tourism traffic, and is credited with supporting 2,481 jobs. Work started with staging in late 2023, with full construction starting in spring 2024. Work is expected to be complete in December 2025.
