You're Invited!: UN Multigenerational Seminar, September 21-22, 2024

The UU College of Social Justice and UUSC are hosting a multigenerational seminar, Reimagining Tomorrow: Global Solidarity Beyond Empire, to practice justice education that skills us up to engage meaningfully in this moment and beyond. This experiential education and relationship building opportunity includes learning how the UUSC works with the United Nations (UN) as a tool for global solidarity and how to develop or refine your own theory of change for your justice work in the world. You are invited to attend! Join us online or in New York City at the First Unitarian Congregational Society of Brooklyn September 21-22, 2024.

Building on Unitarian Universalism's historic engagement with the UN, as well as UUSC's ongoing advocacy with the global institution, this seminar will center global partners while asking participants to deeply engage with the role of their faith and the values of their faith in engaging with the global community. Together, participants will explore questions like:

• What does it mean to be in solidarity in a global context?
• What are our relationships to advocacy, organizing, and activism?
• How can the UN be a tool for change at the highest international level?

We are deeply honored to host Deepti Gurung, Executive Director of the Citizenship Affected People's Network, Nepal and Neha Gurung, Human Rights Lawyer Advocate for Equal Citizenship Rights as our Keynote Speakers, modeling multigenerational wisdom as they share their work. Participants will develop an understanding of the United States as a global empire and build skills to organize within it. They will learn about how the UN can be a tool for global solidarity. And they will deepen their understanding of how this work relates to themselves and their communities, and how they can connect it to the lives and experiences of others.

In previous years, this seminar was known as the UU@UNO Intergenerational Spring Seminar. As the UU United Nations Office has closed down, however, and its work has partially transitioned to the UU Service Committee, UUCSJ is adapting this long-running seminar series to reflect these changes. While seeking to honor the aspects of the seminar series that previous participants held dear, UUCJ is also reenvisioning its content to center the emerging needs of our grassroots partners, as they advocate structural change at the UN.

All ages 14 and older are welcome to register for this event. Children 13 and under can be included in a parent/ guardian's registration.
