Dr. Varsen Aghabekian Shahin, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, met with Sir Philip Barton, Permanent Under-Secretary of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, to discuss the escalating political situation in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Dr. Shahin stressed the urgent need for international action to address the growing challenges threatening regional and global stability. She highlighted the devastating effects of ongoing acts of extermination, displacement, and starvation in Gaza, emphasizing the need for immediate and sustained humanitarian aid to alleviate Palestinian suffering.
The Minister commended the UK's ongoing humanitarian support to Gaza and its financial contributions to the Palestinian government, as well as its steadfast backing of UNRWA. She also welcomed the UK's recent sanctions on settler militias responsible for crimes against Palestinians.
Dr. Shahin underscored the importance of recognizing the State of Palestine as a crucial step toward peace and justice. She expressed appreciation for the UK's continued support for Palestine and emphasized the value of ongoing dialogue and cooperation, looking forward to the upcoming strategic dialogue with the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and the joint committee between the two governments.
