Investigation Update: BPD Fugitive Unit Arrests Murder Suspect Following Fatal Shooting in Dorchester.

Investigation Update: At about 8:45 PM, on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, Members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit, Massachusetts State Police, Brockton Police, and the US Marshals Service arrested Joseph Ruggs, 28, of Dorchester, in Brockton, MA.

Joseph Ruggs was taken into custody by virtue of an outstanding warrant for his arrest for the charges of Murder, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, Carrying a Firearm Without a License, and Discharging a Firearm Within 500 feet of a Building.

The facts and circumstances surrounding the prior incident are as follows: At about 9:58 PM on Saturday, August 24, 2024 Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to the area of 159 Washington Street for a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased. The victim has since been identified as Jashun Cooley, 38, of Roxbury.
