Closure of the Federal Corrections Institute in Dublin

The U.S. Department of Justice has notified the City of Dublin that the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI), located in Dublin on U.S. government land, will be permanently closed. Opened in 1974, the facility served as a women's prison for 50 years. The City of Dublin had no role with the facility, but some Dublin residents did work for the FCI or were incarcerated there.

In early April 2024, federal officials announced that the facility would no longer serve as a women's prison. Over 600 inmates were then transferred to other facilities across the country.

The City of Dublin feels for the displaced families, either employees or inmates, who may have been transferred elsewhere due to the closure of the FCI Dublin. We also look forward to hearing about the next steps for that facility.
