The City of Tampa Launches Two-Year Project to Update the City's Land Development Code

In an effort to create an improved Land Development Code that is more user-friendly and meets the needs of our growing city, the City of Tampa is updating its Land Development Code (LDC). The two year project, dubbed "Tampa Forward: Building Tomorrow Together," will update the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the City.

A key goal of this project is to create an improved LDC that:

• Is significantly restructured so that it is more logical and easier to understand.
• Includes more photos, diagrams, and other illustrations to visually demonstrate key code provisions.
• Uses more precise language to reduce ambiguity and provide increased predictability.
• Establishes enhanced development standards (such as tree planting and landscaping requirements) to improve the quality of development throughout the City.

The Land Development Code can include everything from protecting a city's historic buildings to creating housing choices and improving walkability, and the city is hoping for pubic input on the changes. On Monday, September 16, the City will be hosting a Public Kickoff Meeting to provide feedback and engage in the project.

"It is vital we have participation from our City of Tampa residents throughout the update of our LDC," said Abbye Feeley, the interim administrator for Development and Economic Opportunity. "As we develop a code that can meet the demands of our growing city, the public's participation will ensure the update will make Tampa a better place for our residents, a better place to do business, and a place where all our neighborhoods can thrive."

The public will have multiple opportunities to engage in the process. Currently:

Residents can take the short survey to share their thoughts on the current LDC and what should be included in the update.

Register to attend the Public Kickoff Meeting : On Monday, September 16th from 7:00PM - 8:30PM at the City will host the Kickoff Meeting at the City Center at Hanna Avenue (2555 East Hanna Avenue). Doors open 6:30PM and refreshments will be provided. If you cannot attend in person, a virtual option will be provided.
