PennDOT Announces Start Date for I-80 Preservation Project

07/02/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the contractor for an Interstate 80 preservation project between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County will start work on Monday, July 8. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 24 miles of roadway and six bridges along this I-80 corridor.

Beginning Monday, the contractor will close the left (passing) lane on I-80 westbound between mile markers 118 and 116. Crews will be milling away the shoulder rumble strips in preparation to set concrete barriers that will be in place as the contractor completes full-depth reconstruction at the Goshen Road and Flegal Road overpasses.

Additionally, the contractor will reduce Route 153 to a single lane in each direction near the Clearfield-Penfield interchange at mile marker 111 as the contractor removes the existing guide rail and the median curb and island in preparation for work on the on/off-ramps on each side of the Interstate.

PennDOT expects work between mile markers 118 and 116 to continue through the end of August. It will issue updates as work progresses through the rest of the work zone.

Overall work on this project involves paving, bridge improvements, installation of Intelligent transportation devices, guide rail installation, pavement marking, and miscellaneous construction. HRI, Inc., of State College, is the contractor on this $47.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in November 2025. All work is weather-dependent.
