On May 10, a large number of tourists were attracted to the Luojiakeng Village of Qiangjiao Town, Ninghai County, by the blooming daisies and hydrangeas on the slope, to get closer to nature and enjoy the slow-paced life in the countryside.

"Over the past few days, there have been quite a few tourist groups, and it is even hard to find somewhere to park their cars." said Ma Junxiang cheerfully, a villager from Luojiakeng Village, who runs a "landscape sightseeing" barbecue restaurant in the village. According to Luo Chunmao, a village official, the dozen or so farmhouses, homestays, and coffee shops operated by the villagers are bustling with customers and booming business these days.

It's hard to imagine that Luojiakeng Village, which is now full of beautiful flowers, used to be a dirty, chaotic, and poor place.

With such great changes, the village is just an example of the "beautiful and harmonious villages construction" in Ningbo.

Compared with urban areas, rural infrastructure and public services have shortcomings. To strengthen the village and bring wealth to the people, the first step is to change the backward appearance of the countryside. With the focus on optimizing the rural living environment, Ningbo has invested funds to vigorously improve the village environment. Some villages with dirty, disorderly and poor environment are thus undergoing a transformation towards being clean, beautiful and artistic, contributing to a completely new living environment.

According to data provided by Ningbo Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, last year in Ningbo there were two provincial-level demonstration counties and 10 demonstration townships, 53 characteristic boutique villages, and 440 standard villages for "beautiful and harmonious villages construction". So far, a total of 75 provincial-level future villages and 101 art empowerment villages have been built.

While improving the environment, Ningbo also focuses on shaping and enhancing the overall rural landscape, by coordinating the promotion of the joint building of beautiful villages, beautiful towns, beautiful rivers and lakes, beautiful countryside, and beautiful forests. The 11 "one ring and ten lines" beautiful countryside scenic lines across counties, with a total design length of 1347.3 kilometers have been built. The overall improvement of the mountains, water, forests, fields, roads, and houses has promoted a significant leap in the quality of urban and rural image. These scenic lines involve nearly 500 established villages of the ten districts (or counties), connecting scattered scenic spots in each village and turning the small landscapes into great scenery.

The beautiful countryside should not only be livable, but also suitable for working. It is the prosperous industries that drive the flow of funds, technology, talent, and other resources to rural areas.

Anshan Village of Hongtang Sub-district, Jiangbei District, has established a village company with the theme of "art creation and enjoyable life", which has introduced such agricultural tourism and leisure projects as Shujia, Goucheng Anyu, and Lao Zhangshu, empowering the integrated development of the agricultural and cultural tourism. Every year, it receives over 400,000 tourists, by embarking on a rural development path of "integrating agriculture and tourism, strengthening villages and enriching people".

With the construction, villages have been transformed into scenic spots, countryside into parks, and farmhouses into guest rooms. The villagers who went out for work have come back, the people from the urban areas have poured in, and the villagers have earned a lot. The dream of a livable and business-friendly countryside has transformed from a blueprint into the reality.

"Beautiful and harmonious villages construction" is a complex and systematic project. From this year, in order to promote the gathering of various resource elements in rural areas, Ningbo has gathered various forces and it plans to create 100 regionally recognizable models for "beautiful and harmonious villages construction" each year, establishing the brand of "rural revitalization in Ningbo, and future countryside in Ningbo". By the end of April, an investment of 488 million yuan has been made for the 100 designated beautiful and harmonious villages this year, with a project investment completion rate of 33.2%.
