Driving Instruction Zones promote safe spaces for new drivers to develop their skills
BRAMPTON, ON (June 26, 2024) - To help increase the availability of safe spaces for driving education and training, the City of Brampton is launching the Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project. Beginning June 27, licensed driving instructors and school operators will be permitted to conduct lessons in designated areas of the parking lot at six recreation centres in Brampton. They include:
To use a Driving Instruction Zone, individual driving instructors or operators are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $25. Once processed, registration provides access to an online booking portal software. Instructors will then be able to book a 30-minute time slot between 9 am and 3:30 pm from Monday through Friday.
This initiative offers a controlled and safe environment for new drivers to hone their skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. Brampton's recreation centre parking lots will provide an opportunity for practical learning. To ensure public safety, designated Driving Instruction Zones have been strategically placed in areas of the parking lot with the least amount of vehicle traffic. In addition, there is a maximum of ten instructors and vehicles permitted per parking lot during each time slot.
With approximately 825 licensed driving school plates and instructors, and 76 licensed driving schools operating in the city, Brampton remains committed to helping equip new drivers with the skills and knowledge they need while enhancing road safety and the overall well-being of the community. The Driving Instruction Zones Pilot Project will take place for one year and the City will review its results to determine the next steps.
