Seton Hall Hosts NAFSA Downstate NY/NJ State Meeting

In July, Seton Hall University hosted the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Downstate NY/NJ State Meeting, bringing together international educators from across the local region to discuss pressing issues in global education and provide training for international student services. "NAFSA, is the world's largest and most diverse nonprofit associations dedicated to international education and exchange," plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape of global learning. Seton Hall's involvement in this event underscores its commitment to fostering global engagement and leadership.

The event, held on the scenic South Orange campus, provided a dynamic forum for sharing best practices, networking and exploring best practices and strategies for supporting international students and expanding study abroad opportunities. As Seton Hall continues to prioritize internationalization, hosting the NAFSA state meeting aligns seamlessly with the university's strategic goals, which are central to its vision for the future.

Assistant Provost for International Programs, Mary Kate Naatus, expressed her enthusiasm for the event, stating, "Hosting the NAFSA Downstate NY/NJ State Meeting at Seton Hall is an honor and a testament to our commitment to fostering global connections. As we continue to build our international partnerships and enhance our support for international students, gatherings like this, that allow us to exchange ideas and explore innovative approaches that will benefit both our students and the broader global community, are invaluable."

Attendees praised the university's hospitality and the depth of the discussions. "Seton Hall provided an ideal environment for this year's meeting," quote from participant/convener. "The campus atmosphere, combined with the university's dedication to internationalization, made for a productive and inspiring day."

NAFSA organizers also highlighted the importance of such events in advancing the association's mission. "We are grateful to Seton Hall for hosting this gathering," noted NAFSA Region X Chair and Director at NYU's Office of Global Services, Robert Sanford. "The collaboration and knowledge-sharing that occurred here are essential as we work together to promote international education and create a more interconnected world."

The discussions and workshops at the meeting addressed critical topics such as visa regulations, student support services and the challenges and opportunities of study abroad in a post-pandemic world. These themes resonate deeply with Seton Hall's mission, as the university remains committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for students from around the world.
Seton Hall's active participation in NAFSA is part of a broader effort to strengthen its international programs and build global partnerships. The meeting provided a valuable platform for university representatives to connect with peers from other institutions, exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations. These connections are essential as Seton Hall seeks to expand its global footprint, offering students and faculty alike the chance to engage with diverse cultures and perspectives through international partnerships and exchanges. As Seton Hall continues to expand its involvement with NAFSA, it strengthens its ability to offer exceptional support to its international students and create meaningful study abroad experiences, solidifying its role as a leader in global learning and engagement.
