FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Irvine paths and bikeways will be cleaner and greener with the addition of its first electric street sweeper to its fleet.
A 2024 Dulevo D-Zero Plus sweeper known as "Evie" will keep Irvine clean and maintained, while preserving the environment.
Joining the City's fleet of four traditional gas-powered sweepers, Evie's all-electric-engine reaches top speeds of 20 mph, making it well-suited to maintain Irvine's trails, bikeways, and parking lots.
Evie was unveiled to the community November 19 at a City event celebrating the opening of its first Class IV Protected Bikeway on Cadence between Radial and Chinon.
As the City builds more Class IV Protected Bikeways, it is estimated that the electric sweeper will save approximately 18 metric tons of carbon emissions over a year - the equivalent of taking 4.2 gas-powered vehicles off City streets.
Together, the Class IV Protected Bikeway and the electric street sweeper create a more bike-friendly community and help the City achieve its ambitious emissions reduction goals outlined in its Climate Action and Adaptation Plan.
