For the second time, Millersville University is hosting the 2024 Educators Rising Pennsylvania State Conference. It will be held on Friday, Nov. 8. in the Bolger Conference Center in Gordinier Hall on campus from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual conference is held for upperclassmen high school students looking to pursue a career in education.
High school students who are members of Educators Rising through their school club or a Career and Technology pathway will be in attendance, however, those who are not members are welcome to attend. Each student will be able to network with current MU students and professors, attend lectures and get an optional campus tour.
The conference will include a keynote speech from the 2024 Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, Ashlie Crosson. Her speech "Biggest Mistakes and Best Advice: Everything I Did Wrong and the Lessons I Learned Along the Way" will cover her personal experiences in teaching and the challenges that may come with it. Along with the keynote, breakout sessions hosted by current MU students who are studying education will serve as an opportunity for high schoolers to make connections and learn more about college life as an education major.
The conference will also feature four Millersville University student mentors: Alexa DiMaggio, a senior majoring in Early Childhood Education; Gabe Greb, a third-year Secondary Education Social Studies student; Emily Chillis, a freshman majoring in art education; and Brogan Williams, a third-year student studying Early Childhood Education with a minor in Integrative STEM Methods.
One of the breakout sessions hosted by MU students will include a vision board activity, allowing students to get crafty and plan out and set inspirational goals for their future as an educator.

"I think to continue that inspiration, to really get them excited about their career options and to hear about them from veteran teachers and students will solidify their choice of becoming an educator," says Willox.
For those interested in attending, registration for the event is free and includes breakout sessions, a keynote speech, campus tour, professional networking and a teacher leader session. There will also be free lunch from MU's Upper Deck dining hall for all attendees.
