Todman holds bilateral meetings with international partners to gain key insights and share the nation's progress on supporting resilient communities and housing.
ROME - The Honorable Adrianne Todman, Agency Head of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is traveling to Rome, Italy from November 3-4 to lead the United States delegation to the G7 Ministers' Meeting on Sustainable Urban Development, where she is holding bilateral meetings with other nations to gain key insights and share the nation's progress on supporting resilient communities and housing. There, the Agency Head is representing the Biden-Harris Administration, which has taken more climate action than any Administration in U.S. history, and is taking critical steps to boost America's supply of affordable homes and lower housing costs for families.
"It is my honor to represent the United States of America in this critical time, sharing our work to build resilient, efficient, and sustainable communities and learning best practices from other nations," said HUD Agency Head Adrianne Todman. "The Biden-Harris Administration has more critical, historic investments in climate than any Administration in history, from retrofitting our affordable housing stock to protecting the families we serve from extreme heat. Together, we are building homes, communities, and an entire world that is sustainable for generations to come."
At the G7 Meeting, the countries and ministers represented signed on to a Communiqué, an agreement to unlock the full potential of the world's communities. The leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) committed to concrete actions to reduce spatial inequalities, protect the environment, invest in smart and innovative economies in urban areas, as well as promote the health, safety and inclusion of citizens in the face of climate change. See the full Communiqué here. It also recognizes the crucial and special roles of cities as drivers in achieving strategic objectives and concrete results, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, the New Urban Agenda, and the Paris Agreement.
Since launching its all-of-government Housing Supply Action Plan, the Biden-Harris Administration has been committed to using every available tool to build more quality, affordable, and sustainable housing and lower costs for American families. This includes awarding funds to communities to identify and remove barriers to building new affordable homes and cutting red tape to help builders use federal financing to build housing.
Over the past four years, the Biden-Harris Administration has worked to ensure that America's communities are not only affordable, but climate-resilient and energy-efficient, reducing energy costs for consumers and protecting homes and communities from the effects of climate change. President Joe Biden signed into law the Inflation Reduction Act - the largest investment in environmental justice in American history. Thanks to this law, the U.S. has accelerated our progress toward President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' goal of cutting U.S. climate pollution by 50 to 52 percent below 2005 levels in 2030. Through programs like the Environmental Protection Agency's Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund and Solar for All as well as HUD's Green and Resilient Retrofit Program, the Inflation Reduction Act is committing billions to support tens of thousands of clean energy projects, reducing or avoiding millions of metric tons of carbon pollution annually into the future, and saving moderate- and low-income families crucial funds on energy and utility bills.
