(BOWIE, Md.) - Danielle Epps, one of the newest members of the Bowie State University family, brings over a decade and a half of admissions and recruitment experience into her role as assistant vice president of enrollment management.
"When I saw the opportunity at Bowie, I really felt like it was everything I had done before," said Epps, who hails from Atlantic City. "I've been able to touch different parts of the school to understand the landscape of how an institution functions."
With her first semester at Bowie State nearly complete, Epps says the one thing that stands out the most about the university is the passion that her staff has for supporting students as they matriculate through their academic career.
"They see themselves in them, and they want to make sure that students thrive every day," Epps said. "You can't teach that sense of care and passion."
It's that same passion that Epps uses to operate in her role in enrollment management. For her, the university has a responsibility to do more than just get students in the door. She says there are a host of other factors that must be accounted for to enable a student to graduate with their degree.
"We work with the student through their full life cycle," Epps said. "How do we make sure that, when they're here, we're communicating with students appropriately in order to know which students have certain needs and reach out to them? It's a mix of all things that help with enrolling a student and going through their full life cycle."
Though Epps has only been on board since August, she's already embraced what it means to be part of the Bulldog family. She echoed the tenants of the university's strategic vision as she explained how she wants to serve and support students during their journey.
"We want to make sure we're Bowie Bold in everything," said Epps. "Bowie State is invested in ensuring that we are providing that experience to our students, and we're going to invest in making sure we have the teams we need to ensure that happens. Racing to excellence must include that aspect of service."
