Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Route 140

MERCED COUNTY - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 99 (SR-140) for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

• Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through July 31, 2024.

• ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use either the Westley Rest Area (San Joaquin/Stanislaus County line) or the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line). Electric vehicle charging stations are available at the Westley Rest Area.

STATE ROUTE 140

• Long-term full closure from 5^th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, 2024, at 6:00 a.m. to Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
• One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for curb and gutter work beginning Monday, July 1, through Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
