Welcome to Fall Semester 2024 at Valley College

Welcome to the Monarch Family! We are so excited you are joining us for the Fall semester, and are committed to helping you reach your academic and career goals.

The semester begins Monday, August 26. Here are a few "pro" tips to get you ready for your first day of classes:

Student Questions & Support

Welcome Center is Here to Help You

The LAVC Welcome Centeris your first stop to help you find what you're looking for at Valley College! During the first two weeks of the semester, you can reach us Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.:

How to Add a Class

Requesting a Permission Number to Add a Class

If you want to add a class, you may add online thorough the second day of class. If you wish to add after the second day of the term, you will need to get a permission number from the instructor to be add the class. Please contact the instructor for a permission number. Use the Campus Directoryto fine the instructor's email address.

Officially Enrolling with Permission Number

Once you receive a permission number, add your class in the Student Portalbefore the last day to add, to be officially enrolled.

Campus Parking

Parking permits are required for the Fall semester.Buy your Fall Parking Permit onlineor in-person at the Business Officefor $20. Or, you can buy daily parking permits from a parking pay station for $2 (cash only; selected pay stations accept cash and credit card).

There is a two-week grace period in student parking stalls only at the beginning of the Fall semester (August 26 - September 8, 2024). Starting September 9, vehicles parked without a visible valid parking permit (employee permit for faculty & staff lots / student permit for student lots) will be cited.

FREE MetroGo Pass for LAVC Students

Take public transportation to campus at NO COST! All students enrolled in LAVC Fall classes are eligible to get a FREE Metro GoPass. Pick up your GoPass TAP Card at the Welcome Center or Business Office.

Sick? Stay Home

As a reminder, please stay home if you feel sick and contact your instructor for work assignments. If needed, seek help from a healthcare provider or contact the LAVC Student Health Center.

Online Classes

Access Your Online Class

To log into your online class through the SIS/Canvas:

  1. In a web browser, go to the MyCollege.laccd.edu Student Portal
  1. Login ID/Users ID: Your 9-digit student ID number (example: 881234567 or 900123456)
  1. Password: Same as your SIS password (where you registered for the class). Show me how to log in to the LACCD Student Portal

Help with Canvas

Valley College Onlineis the place to help you with resources and assistance on Canvas!

To access help in Canvas, log into the Student Portal. Click the "Help" (question mark icon) and select your main college campus. The "Canvas Support" link will take you to a page that allows you to search for questions related to Canvas and start an online chat with Canvas Support.

Pay Your Fees & Buy Textbooks

Student Fees & Financial Aid

The Business Officeis where you pay your registration fees in-person or online. This is also where you can pick up your free Metro GoPass and activation code.

Apply for Financial Aidto get help paying for college with grants and other resources.

Getting Textbooks

Stop by the Campus Bookstoreto purchase your textbooks, course materials, class supplies, backpacks, Monarch gear, etc. To search and buy your required textbooks and supplies, go to Buy Textbooks.

Join Your CAP Canvas Site TODAY

Based on your selected major, you now belong to one of Valley's Career & Academic Pathways(also known as CAPs). Find your CAP Canvas Site to connect with the people, places, and LAVC resources that will support you. (This is not a class. There is no grades and no homework!)
