Independence named top 10 Digital City

The Center for Digital Government's 2024 Digital Cities Survey recognizes cities using technology to elevate public service and secure local government facing a changing digital landscape.

This year Independence was named a top 10 digital city. The City has consistently ranked on the list in our population category for about two decades, which is a testament to the commitment Independence's IT team has to leverage data, technology, and digital innovation to modernize systems, streamline operations, promote digital transparency, and deliver more effective services to our community.

"We are thrilled to once again be recognized as a top 10 digital city," said Jason Newkirk, Chief Information Officer Jason Newkirk. "This honor highlights the City's efforts to use technology to improve efficiency, inform decision-making, and deliver quality services to our community."

The Digital Cities Survey assesses data and technology programs policies, and initiatives by U.S. cities, towns, villages, and consolidated city-county governments and recognizes those that effectively implement best practices.

Over the last five years, the City of Independence has aggressively invested time and money in cybersecurity, technology infrastructure, and our workforce. As a result, the IT team has significantly improved our operations and services to our residents.
