European Parliament hearing on proposed transparency representation rules for non-EU countries

The European Parliament's Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection held a hearing on the draft directive for harmonised transparency of interest rules carried out on behalf of non-EU countries. Professor Emilia Korkea-Aho, the author of a study contracted by the Parliaments Policy Department presented her main findings.

FRA underlined that emphasis should be given to transposition and implementation given that the directive could lead to unintended negative effects nationally, especially for civil society organisations.

FRA suggested that the EU legislator could consider introducing a clause requiring independent authorities with necessary fundamental rights expertise to enable them detect and address possible fundamental rights implications.

The European Commission presented its views and shadow-rapporteurs, and other Members of Parliament, used the opportunity to exchange views.

The hearing took place on 30 September in Brussels.
