Official Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan to the Kingdom of Thailand, 25 to 26 June 2024

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan is on an Official Visit to Thailand.

Minister Balakrishnan met Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul for lunch yesterday. They welcomed the increasing high-level exchanges of visits, which have helped to build up momentum towards stronger bilateral relations. They discussed Singapore and Thailand's common interest in developing carbon credits collaboration, which would be mutually beneficial for both countries and support our climate commitments.

Minister Balakrishnan was hosted to dinner by Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Sangiampongsa yesterday. The Ministers took stock of the close and multifaceted cooperation between Singapore and Thailand, and reaffirmed the importance of the Singapore-Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) as a key institutional bilateral platform to exchange ideas, build mutual understanding and raise capabilities across both Civil Services. The Ministers jointly officiated the opening of the 14^th Coordinating Meeting of the Singapore-Thailand Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP14) themed "Embarking on a Green Partnership in a Digitalised Era" this morning. Minister Balakrishnan delivered the opening address at the event.

Minister Balakrishnan called on President of the Privy Council General Surayud Chulanont and Privy Councillor General Prayut Chan-o-cha this morning. They spoke about the longstanding relationship between Singapore and Thailand, including our close defence cooperation, as well as our strong people-to-people ties. They discussed emerging areas of collaboration, including the digital economy and regional energy connectivity.
