Data Protection Basics: Upcoming sessions in autumn and winter 2024

18/07/2024

The CNPD is continuing its series of 'Data Protection Basics' training courses, a 5-hour course that provides an introduction to the key principles of personal data protection and is aimed at the general public. The sessions will take place on 24 September 2024, 15 October 2024 and 19 November 2024 respectively. The October session will be held in English.

Description

Advances in digitisation mean that more and more businesses, public authorities, associations, self-employed people and other professionals are collecting, exchanging and processing personal data and using innovative digital tools.

Users of these tools and organisations that use personal data have obligations and must be aware of the rights of the people whose data they are processing. Data is processed for purposes such as video surveillance, geolocation, human resources management, social networking or the use of applications in the cloud.

Faced with these challenges, and in order to respect the rights of citizens and their own obligations, it is important that the various players involved understand and are familiar with personal data protection and adopt the right reflexes.

Main topics covered

  • Key elements: definitions, life cycle of personal data, controller/sub-processor, the RGPD
  • The main principles: purpose limitation, transparency, lawfulness, data minimisation, retention periods, security, accountability, etc.
  • The rights of data subjects: right to information, right of access, right to object
  • Obligations of organisations: register of processing operations, data breach notification, impact assessment
  • Voluntary compliance tools: certifications, codes of conduct, etc.
  • The data protection officer
  • Supervisory authorities

Target audience

This 5-hour course is aimed at individuals, both personal and professional, who are interested in data protection but are new to it.

Its aim is to explain the main principles of privacy and personal data protection so that the RGPD can be properly understood and applied.

No prerequisites are required or recommended to take part in this course.
