Dollar General Recognizes World Vegetarian Day and Healthier Living with Better-For-You Recipes

Oct 01, 2024

Spreading the joy of nutritious cooking, DG's Better-For-You recipes help families craft healthier meals at affordable prices.

October 1st is World Vegetarian Day, which was established nearly 50 years ago to encourage people to learn about vegetarianism and its benefits. At Dollar General (DG), all 20,000+ DG stores offer components of an affordable vegetarian diet, including frozen and canned fruits and vegetables, grains and other vegetarian-friendly options. Additionally, with 5,400+ stores nationwide offering fresh produce, DG makes fresh fruit and vegetables more accessible, having more individual points of produce distribution than any other mass retailer or grocer in the U.S.

While not a grocer, many of DG's stores serve communities without other retail options, making it the only source for nutritious food products for many residents. With approximately 75% of the U.S. population living within five miles of a DG store and 80% of stores in communities of 20,000 or fewer people, the Company recognizes the unique opportunity it has to make healthier living more accessible.

Continuing its commitment to health and wellbeing, Dollar General offers Better-For-You recipes that provide nutritious meal options designed to nourish your body and satisfy your cravings. Developed in partnership with Mary Alice Cain, a registered dietician and nutritionist, the recipes feature products primarily sourced from Dollar General stores, such as DG's private label brand Clover Valley, as well as America's most trusted national brands, ensuring quality, value and convenient access. Some of the latest recipes include Light But Loaded Tots, Spring Pasta Salad, Vegetable Quiche and sweet treats like Blueberry Muffins - all of which are vegetarian-friendly!
