City of St. Petersburg Launches New GIS Map for ADU Zoning

Empowering Homeowners to Explore Housing Options

September 17, 2024 - The City of St. Petersburg is excited to announce the launch of a new Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping tool designed to help homeowners easily determine whether they can build an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) on their property.

"As we continue to expand housing options in St. Pete, this new GIS mapping tool will be a vital resource for homeowners looking to enhance their property with an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU)," said Amy Foster, Housing and Neighborhood Services Administrator. "Whether they're planning for multigenerational living or creating an additional income stream, the ability to easily check ADU eligibility puts more power in the hands of our residents. This is another step toward a more affordable and inclusive housing landscape for our city."

As ADU zoning continues to expand citywide, this user-friendly map provides a simple way for residents to explore their housing options by looking up their address to check for eligibility.

This initiative is part of the City's ongoing efforts to promote housing diversity and provide more affordable housing options across the community. The new GIS tool will make it easier for homeowners to navigate zoning regulations and take advantage of the flexibility that ADUs offer-whether for additional income, multi-generational living, or downsizing.
