WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today in recognition of Veterans Day:
"From Valley Forge to Korengal Valley, the forests of France to the jungles of Vietnam, the fields of Pennsylvania to the sands of Pacific islands, American service members have braved fearsome challenges in every corner of the world in defense of our Constitution. Today, we honor our Veterans and their families for their service.
"Those who wear the uniform of the United States of America exemplify our nation's highest ideals: freedom, democracy, and justice. We have a sacred responsibility to care for them even after they remove the uniform. That's why I brought the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act to the House Floor last Congress to expand care and benefits for millions of Veterans who were exposed to dangerous toxins during their service. In the past two years, more than a million Veterans have received benefits under this historic legislation. Millions more have filed PACT Act claims that will be fulfilled in the coming months and years.
"Whether it's building on the progress of the PACT Act, coming up with new strategies to address PTSD and other Veteran mental health challenges, or creating new economic opportunities to help our Veterans and military families get ahead, I will continue to stand up for the men and women who stood up for America's security. Crucially, we must honor those who served by protecting that for which they served: our country, our Constitution, and our democracy. May the example of U.S. service members past, present, and future guide us in that noble mission."
