Guest Artist Duo to Perform Sept. 16 at UW

Guest artist duo Duality will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, in the University of Wyoming's Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts recital hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

The duo of Catherine Anderson, piano, and Vanessa Sielert, saxophone, will be in recital featuring contemporary works for saxophone and piano by Dan Cavanagh, Dylan Champagne, David Faleris, Keith Forsey, Steve Schiff and Gregory Yasinitsky.

Since 2010, Duality has promoted new works for saxophone and piano that challenge the listener and highlight the beauty of these instruments. The duo performs existing pieces and commissions new works that live long beyond the ensemble.

Anderson is based in the Pacific Northwest and served on the University of Idaho's Lionel Hampton School of Music faculty for 10 years. She is in demand as a collaborative artist throughout the region, performing regularly with faculty and students from the University of Idaho, Washington State University and Central Washington University. She has collaborated with guest artists, such as John DiCesare and Ko-ichiro Yamamoto, both of the Seattle Symphony.

Sielert is a professor of music in the Lionel Hampton School of Music. She is a performer, educator and clinician who has collaborated with such ensembles as the Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Symphony Tacoma, the Bob Curnow Big Band, the Palouse Jazz Project, the Free Range Saxophone Quartet and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She is a Selmer Performing Artist and Clinician.
