New water play for Droitwich Spa

A new splash pad is set to be created in Lido Park in Droitwich Spa after councillors gave the project the green light.

It is hoped work will start early in the new year on the £550,000 scheme. The free-to-use water play will move from the back of Droitwich Spa Lido to a new home near the tennis courts. This will support the expansion plans for the lido and allow for the creation of a modern and improved splash pad.

The current water play area was opened in 2011 and is now past its best, frequently breaks down and is costly to repair. Without investment, the water play may be out of action for long periods during the summer or fail completely.

A survey of park users also revealed people felt the water play was 'minimal, small and needed expansion or enhancement'.

Officers are currently working through bids from companies to carry out the project and hope to make an appointment before the end of the year. The design of the new splash pad will reflect the heritage of the park and the town.

The new water play should be open by May next year. New water plays have already successfully been installed in Evesham and Pershore.

Cllr Beverley Hardman, Wychavon's Executive Board Member for Boosting Natural Capital, said: "The new water plays in Evesham and Pershore have proved tremendously popular and I am delighted it is now Droitwich Spa's turn. This is just another way we continue to invest in our award-winning parks so residents and visitors can enjoy spending time in them."
