7.2 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE STRUCK HUALIEN IN TAIWAN'S EAST COASTAL AREA

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei, is closely monitoring the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck Hualien in Taiwan's east-coastal area on 3 April 2024 at 7:58am local time. It has caused damage to properties as well as disruption in the electricity supply.

As of 10am, 3 April 2024, no Malaysians have reportedly been affected by the earthquake. The Malaysian Friendship and Trade Centre in Taipei is actively coordinating efforts with local authorities to obtain further information.

Malaysia extends its deepest sympathies to the victims and families affected by the earthquake.
