Congressman Cohen Announces Enhanced Air Quality Monitoring in South Memphis

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) today announced that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will provide a $411,000 grant to Shelby County to establish 27 carbon monoxide monitors at five sites in South Memphis. The automated monitors will provide 24/7 real-time reporting of air quality and pollutant concentrations.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"Enhancing the monitoring of air quality in South Memphis, where much of our potentially polluting industries reside, makes sense. This EPA investment will provide the kind of transparency residents of the area need to assure they are breathing clean air. Our recent history with a now-closed polluter is evidence enough that we need to be vigilant. I look forward to the swift deployment of these monitors and the peace of mind they will bring."
