SMUD's Meet the Buyers event helps small businesses grow

Sacramento-area entrepreneurs and small businesses gain insights, access to contracting opportunities

On Thursday, September 12, Meet the Buyers will connect local entrepreneurs and small businesses with SMUD's purchasing teams. The event aims to foster partnerships that contribute to Sacramento's clean energy future while driving Sacramento business growth and supporting the local economy.

Attendees will explore contracting opportunities and learn how their products and services can support SMUD's operations and its clean energy goals.

SMUD Board President Rosanna Herber,California Department of General Services, Caltrans, Sacramento County, Regional Transit, California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and more than 200 small and large business representatives.

"As we transition to a zero-carbon future, we're connecting with entrepreneurs and small businesses and fostering partnerships that drive regional economic growth. These collaborations are creating opportunities across our communities, advancing clean energy and ensuring a sustainable, thriving Sacramento for all."

Meet the Buyers & Business Resources Expo event highlights:

  • Attendees will have the chance to meet and engage with SMUD's purchasing teams, as well as representatives from key local agencies.
  • A dedicated session on government contracting will provide insights on how businesses can grow through contracts with top local agencies.
  • SMUD experts will lead a panel on the challenges and opportunities in clean energy contracting, discussing how businesses can support SMUD's 2030 zero carbon goal.
  • The hybrid format allows participants to join panel discussions either in person or online.

Last year, SMUD awarded 29 percent of its contracts to local small businesses, totaling $103 million dollars reinvested back into our local economy.
