NYC CLC and Partners Testify in Support of Worker Fatality Bill

On Wednesday, NYC CLC Chief of Staff Brendan Griffith testified before the NYC Council Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection in support of Intro 865, a bill that would require the Department of Consumer and Worker Protection to establish and maintain an online, publicly available database that compiles information related to workplace fatalities that occur in New York City.

Tracking and reporting workplace fatalities is a vital step towards honoring the sacrifices of New York City workers. The choice to come to work each day should not be a life-or-death decision - but for too many, it is. This legislation, sponsored by Civil Service and Labor Committee Chair Carmen De La Rosa, represents a proactive approach to preventing workplace injuries and deaths, helping to ensure safe and healthy work environments. Without comprehensive and timely data, we cannot effectively track, report, or prevent workplace fatalities. By gaining a clear understanding of where, how, and how many workplace fatalities occur, advocates can develop effective solutions to solving these critical and urgent issues.
