ONDCP Welcomes Revised Holistic U.S. – Colombia Counternarcotics Metrics

Last week, the governments of the United States of America and the Republic of Colombia announced the agreement of updated and expanded metrics used to measure progress of U.S.-Colombia holistic counternarcotics strategy. Negotiated during the 11th U.S.-Colombia High Level Dialogue held in Bogotá earlier this year, this agreement was developed to address the range of factors that drive participation in the illicit economy in Colombia. As a result, the revised list of metrics acknowledges the need to interdict drugs and destroy laboratories, and prosecute criminals and seize assets while also measuring the success of efforts to provide citizen security, improve licit economic opportunities, and address environmental degradation linked to drug production and trafficking.

"Illicit drug trafficking is a global problem that requires global solutions. Over the past three and a half years, the Biden-Harris Administration has made strengthening collaboration with international partners a key priority in the global efforts to crack down on this illicit industry," said Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. "These updated and expanded metrics are the latest development in strengthening our U.S.-Colombia holistic counternarcotics strategy, and we will continue working with our Colombian partners to reduce the production and trafficking of cocaine, and promote economic prosperity and citizen security."
