The 2024 beNeFit gala, NF Forward's signature event, took place on November 23 at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit. This year's beNeFit XII, themed A Moody Masquerade to Cure NF, once again brought together a passionate community united in the fight to end NF.
Since its inception in 2013, the beNeFit has raised nearly $75 million for NF research, with over 1,700 attendees gathering each year to support innovative research led by organizations like the Children's Tumor Foundation. This extraordinary event is spearheaded by longtime CTF champions Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, whose unwavering commitment continues to drive critical progress in NF research and advocacy.
This year's event was no exception. With the support of 1,800 attendees, sponsors, and donors, beNeFit XII raised nearly $9 million to further the mission of NF Forward and the Children's Tumor Foundation. These contributions directly fuel advancements in groundbreaking treatments and therapies that are transforming lives for those living with NF.
Key moments of the evening included a scientific research update from NF Forward, highlighting the transformative work made possible by over a decade of investments (view the video HERE). Attendees also learned about the remarkable progress of the new Nick Gilbert Neurofibromatosis Research Institute (NGNRI), a key initiative of the Gilbert Family Foundation (view the update HERE). Nick Gilbert, who lived with NF1, was a former Children's Tumor Foundation National Ambassador and a member of the CTF Junior Board. Through the NGNRI, Nick's lasting legacy is accelerating the development of NF treatment options for millions of individuals living with NF.
For the second consecutive year, the Head and Heart Award was presented to an individual whose work has significantly advanced NF research. This year's honoree, Dr. Nancy Ratner, was recognized for her dedication and groundbreaking contributions to the NF community. You can learn more about Dr. Ratner's impact in this inspiring video HERE.
Another highlight of the evening was the story of Devin, a remarkable individual who continues to pursue his dreams and inspire others despite the challenges of living with NF. Devin's journey is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the NF community.
Looking ahead, we are already excited for beNeFit XIII, scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Huntington Place in Detroit. Mark your calendars and join us for another unforgettable evening in support of NF research and advocacy.
