New Vanderbilt Staff Athletics Program begins July 16

At Vanderbilt, we are dedicated to cultivating a campus culture that prioritizes the holistic well-being of our staff. The Vanderbilt Staff Athletics Program, fondly known as "Staff-Letics," embodies this unwavering commitment. This vibrant initiative goes beyond just promoting physical activity; it also fosters a deep sense of community, camaraderie and belonging among our esteemed staff and colleagues.

"Our Staff Athletics Program isn't just about sports; it's about investing in your health, connecting with colleagues, and being part of a supportive community that celebrates diversity and inclusivity," said Sydney Savion, vice chancellor for people, culture and belonging. "Whether you're striving for personal fitness goals, seeking stress relief or simply looking to have fun, there's a place for you in our program."

Purpose and Mission

Recognizing the profound impact of physical activity on physical and mental well-being, our program encourages and supports regular engagement in athletic pursuits year round. By providing opportunities for staff to participate in organized events and pursue individual fitness goals, as we aim to create a workplace culture that values and prioritizes the health and happiness of our employees. Through these shared experiences, our staff can forge meaningful connections, support one another and develop a heightened sense of pride in being part of the Vanderbilt community.

About the Program

The Staff-Letics program will provide a diverse array of athletic pursuits. The inaugural kickball and cornhole tournament will kick off on July 16, with games starting at 4 p.m. at Curry Field in front of Wilson Hall. The tournament will continue on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of July. You can register your team or as an individual using this signup link.

In collaboration with Health, Wellbeing and Belonging, all participants who sign up will receive 200 points in Virgin Pulse for participating in a tournament. This is a great way to earn rewards while achieving your fitness goals.

Teams can be made up of any staff members from across the university, regardless of their division or department, to promote inclusivity and fair competition. You will need at least eight people to form a kickball team. Interested staff members can sign up to participate or volunteer to assist with the program.

From the friendly competition of cornhole tournaments to the spirited teamwork of kickball, the Staff-Letics program provides a dynamic calendar of events throughout the year. This array of activities not only encourages physical activity, but also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie and community among our staff. We believe in cultivating a diverse and inclusive community that celebrates the unique talents and interests of our staff.
