Middle schoolers dive into robotics in UHV computing summer camp

Athena Perez, 11, left, watches in excitement as MacKenzie Crow, 11, takes control of a remote-operated robot during the Texas Women In Computing Summer Camp on July 10 at the University of Houston-Victoria. The camp, which was cost-free, was made possible through a grant from Alcoa Foundation and offered an environment where students could learn at their own pace. Attendees from the camp were middle school students who came from Victoria and the surrounding regions. The camp provided instruction in both hardware design and coding. Throughout the week, students engaged in hands-on activities to deepen their interest in computing and to enhance their knowledge to prepare them to apply critical thinking to complex computer science concepts encountered in high school or college.
