(Leavenworth, Kan.) - The University of Saint Mary has partnered with the Kansas City Kansas Community College Pioneer Career Center in Leavenworth to launch an innovative educational program designed to address the critical shortage of skilled professionals in the construction industry. Students can now earn valuable trade certificates from KCKCC while simultaneously working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies or a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from USM.

The eligible KCKCC certificate programs include Electrical Technology, HVAC, and Construction Technology. Enrollment is now open for a January 2025 start date.

"USM's unique partnership with KCKCC provides a comprehensive solution to the industry skills gap by integrating technical training with a robust academic curriculum," Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Michelle Metzinger said. "Students can specialize in essential trades while building their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills."

Program Highlights

  • Holistic Experience: Students can take full advantage of USM's campus life, including living in residence halls, participating in student life activities, and playing varsity sports.
  • Balanced Academic Pathway: The program includes 45 credits of general electives through KCKCC certificates, 39 credits of USM major requirements, and 36 credits from USM's general education program - totaling 120 credits for the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies or Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies.
