Huntsville Animal Services will soon be under new leadership following Mayor Tommy Battle's appointment of John Fischer as the new director.
John Fischer's appointment as department head was the only new appointment in a resolution that received unanimous approval from the City Council. In addition to Fischer, 28 other department heads were reappointed as part of the resolution.
Fischer, who has worked in animal welfare for 24 years, will begin his new position on Nov. 18. He brings extensive experience from his previous role as Animal Services Manager in Pearland, Texas.
The City conducted a nationwide search to find its new full-time director.
"John Fischer brings a wealth of knowledge and proven dedication to animal welfare," said Mayor Tommy Battle. "His experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to provide a safety net for the City's lost and adoptable pets. "
As Director of Animal Services, Fischer will continue the department's mission of providing shelter, enforcement and prevention services for Huntsville and unincorporated areas of Madison County through community outreach and partnerships.
