DelBene Delivers $960K for Redmond Water Pipe Replacement Project

Today, Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-01) presented the City of Redmond with a $960,000 check to replace an aging asbestos cement water pipe that has reached the end of its useful life. DelBene secured the investment in the FY24 federal funding law.

The City of Redmond has experienced 27 water main breaks in the last six years alone, which pose a significant risk to life and property due to water damage and potential loss of fire protection and drinking water reliability. The new iron pipe will save taxpayer funds and ensure safe, healthy drinking water services for Redmond residents.

"This investment is critical in improving our infrastructure and ensuring Redmond residents have access to safe and reliable water," said DelBene. "These investments will improve public safety and mitigate disruptions in fire protection and drinking water. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these resources will have in our community."

"When we replace aging asbestos cement pipes with modern materials, we're not just upgrading infrastructure to provide clean water for our residents; we're safeguarding our natural salmon-bearing waterways," said Redmond Mayor Angela Birney. "This vital project ensures clean water, guards against property damage from pipe breaks, and promotes healthier salmon habitats with the benefit of supporting both community well-being and environmental sustainability."

DelBene secured over $18 million for 15 community projects across Washington's 1st Congressional District in the FY24 federal funding package. Projects came directly from non-profit, city, county, Tribal, and state entities, and all funding secured was done in collaboration with project sponsors.
