The Boston Police Department Remembers the Service and Sacrifice of Detective John J. Mulligan who Was Killed in the Line of Duty 31 Years Ago Today

BPD Remembers: The men and women of the Boston Police Department remember the service and sacrifice of Detective John J. Mulligan, who was killed in the line of duty 31 years ago today. On September 26, 1993, Detective John James Mulligan was shot and killed in the line of duty in the Walgreen's parking lot on American Legion Highway in Roslindale.

Detective Mulligan was a 27 year veteran of the BPD and was 52 years old at the time of his death. Detective Mulligan was survived by his two sons.

Detective Mulligan is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Brighton, MA. His name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C, on Panel 30, West Line 19. His name is also forever engraved on the Hero Wall at Boston Police Headquarters and the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Memorial at the State House in Boston.

In Boston, a Hero Sign has been placed in his honor in the area American Legion Highway in Roslindale. The sign is to forever honor the memory of a man who gave his life in service to his city.
