Mattapan Officers Recovered a Firearm After a Traffic Stop

At about 1:40 PM, on Thursday, September 12, 2024, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested Paulino Rosa, 19, of Dorchester, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Erie Street and Merrill Street when they observed a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed. Officers immediately activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop. Officers were able to stop the vehicle in the area of 16 Old Road.

Officers made contact with the operator and requested his license and registration. Officers immediately observed the operator's body to be shaking. After further investigation, officers requested the operator to exit the vehicle.

Officers conducted a frisk of the motor vehicle and recovered a firearm from inside. The firearm was later determined to be a Smith & Wesson 38 SPC with one round in the chamber

Rosa was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
