HARRISBURG - Nine public school entities that serve Bradford County students have been awarded School Safety and Mental Health Grants, according to Reps. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming) and Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford).
"Ensuring the safety of students, faculty and staff is critical, and these state grants will help in that regard by upgrading security systems and providing behavioral health programs in our local schools," said Pickett. "I have always been a strong supporter of funding that goes toward making Pennsylvania's schools safer."
"For our students to succeed in school, they must feel safe and supported," Owlett said. "These grants are an important tool in helping achieve that goal, and I am pleased to see this funding coming to our area schools."
The following school entities were awarded funding:
• Athens Area School District - $138,237.
• BLaST Intermediate Unit 17 - $70,000.
• Canton Area School District - $115,730.
• Northeast Bradford School District - $112,760.
• Northern Tier Career Center - $70,000.
• Sayre Area School District - $117,241.
• Towanda Area School District - $128,238.
• Troy Area School District - $126,374.
• Wyalusing Area School District - $123,445.
The noncompetitive grants were approved by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, which awarded a total of $100 million in funding statewide to 500 school districts, 176 charter schools, 29 Intermediate units and 74 area career and technical schools.
In addition, nearly $20 million in competitive safety grants were awarded to 367 nonpublic schools. The awards complete the $120 million school safety grants program package appropriated in the bipartisan 2024-25 state budget that was approved by the General Assembly.
