New undergraduate students receive Bibles to begin new academic year

The newest members of the Bison Herd embarked on a new tradition this fall to kick off the new school year, which will have an impact on them for years to come.

As part of QuestWeek, Lipscomb University's weeklong new student orientation, each incoming undergraduate student received a purple Lipscomb Bible. This tradition was introduced following the annual family worship service, on Tuesday evening, Aug. 13, where new students and their families gathered for worship together before students said goodbye to their parents and embarked on their journey at Lipscomb. Students were given a Bible at the conclusion of the worship service.

The Bibles serve as a tangible reminder of Lipscomb's Christ-centered mission and the university's dedication to nurturing the spiritual lives of its students.

In a letter to students in the foreword of the Bibles, Lipscomb President Candice McQueen wrote:

"The Bible that you hold in your hands is the most sacred and important book that you will ever open. On these pages are the living words of God that will guide, comfort, inspire and shape you throughout your life's journey. The words within these pages are a gift that will offer solace and encouragement in times of uncertainty, joy in moments of celebration and most importantly hope for an eternal life lived with Him…

The spiritual formation of our students is the most important aspect of our mission as a Christ-centered community preparing learners for lives of purpose. It is at the core of everything that we do - from our curriculum to our community life. This Bible is a foundational element of that mission, meant to go with you as you explore your faith. We believe that nurturing your spiritual growth is essential, not just during your time at Lipscomb, but as a lifelong pursuit that will continually shape who you are and who you will become."

These special Bibles were made possible through the generous donation of an anonymous donor who shares the university's vision of faith-based education and the value of spiritual formation in the educational journey of our students.

Fall semester classes began on Monday, Aug. 19. Lipscomb University achieved a significant milestone this fall: the largest incoming class of new freshmen in the university's history. For the second consecutive year, Lipscomb surpassed its previous first-time freshman record.

First-day enrollment numbers indicate the largest class of new freshmen in university history with close to 730 first-time freshman students and over 875 total new students joining the Bison Herd, contributing to a projected total enrollment of more than 4,800 students. Final enrollment numbers will be available in mid-September following the university's official census.
