Signing of A Grant Agreement in the Amount of USD 2,000,000 In [...]

The Kuwait Fund concluded on 17/10/2024 a Grant Agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) whereby the Fund will provide a grant amounting to USD 2 million in Support of Improving Living Conditions for the Rohingya Refugees Project in People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The Grant Agreement was signed on behalf of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development by Mr. Waleed Sh. Al-Bahar, Acting Director General and on behalf of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees by Ms. Nisreen Rubaian, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Representative to the State of Kuwait.

The Project aims to improve the living conditions and raise the level of safety and public health for Rohingya Refugees residing in the Cox's Bazar Refugees Camp in the People's Republic of Bangladesh by providing basic building materials to renovate refugee housing and liquefied petroleum gas for cooking purposes for about 18 thousand families for a period of 12 months. The number of direct beneficiaries of the project is estimated at about 140,000 people.

This is the sixth contribution between the two parties in the field of humanitarian support and the first of its kind in the field of improving the living conditions of Rohingya refugees in the People's Republic of Bangladesh. With the signing of this grant, the total grants provided to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have reached approximately USD 22 million since the start of their collaboration in 2016.
