City Council Approves 2025 Budget, Lowers Millage Rate

The Cape Coral City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2025 Budget during the final budget hearing Wednesday, October 2. The $1.1 billion budget includes a reduction in the property tax rate to 5.2188 mills, while making critical investments in public safety, infrastructure, and community services to support the City's continued growth.

The budget adds 68 new positions to enhance services across multiple departments, ensuring the City can meet the evolving needs of its residents.

Key Investments in the FY 2025 Budget:

Public Safety

  • North Cape Public Safety Complex: Fire Station 10, training/community room, and equipment space.
  • Fire Station 5 Rebuild: Design and engineering phase.
  • Sidewalk Expansion: Focused on school areas to enhance safety.

Parks, Recreation, and Beautification

  • Park Enhancements (Operation Sparkle): Renewals and improvements at various parks.
  • Facility Upgrades: Roof replacements at the Youth Center and Lake Kennedy Senior Center; Cape Coral Sports Complex expansion.
  • New Additions: Jaycee Park shoreline improvements, a new park on NE 15th Street, and the acquisition of the Old Golf Course.
  • Median Curbing & Beautification Improvements.

Infrastructure

  • City Connectivity: Fiber and wireless conduit linking City facilities.
  • Water and Wastewater Improvements: Expansion of the North RO Water Treatment Plant, Everest Water Reclamation Plant upgrades, and North Water Reclamation Facility expansion design (Phase I).
  • Expanded Road Resurfacing & Bridge Maintenance: Addressing essential transportation infrastructure.
  • Master Lift Station Rehabilitation & North 1 East Utility Expansion.

Environmental Sustainability

  • Water Management & Flood Prevention: Weir rehabilitation, surface water quality improvements, and flood mitigation projects.
